Mark Mugiishi, MD, FACS graduated with honors (Alpha Omega Alpha) from Northwestern University Medical School in 1983 and completed his surgical training at the University of Hawaii Surgical Residency program in 1989. Since then he has been a general surgeon at Ekahi Health/Central Medical Clinic in Honolulu, Hi, operating at both the Queen’s Medical Center and Kuakini Medical Center. During that time, he has been named to Best Doctors in Hawaii and Best Surgeons in America consecutively from 2004 to present. He is Associate Chair, Clinical Affairs of the Department of Surgery for the John A. Burns School of Medicine, Director of Surgical Education for the Kuakini Medical Center, and Associate Program Director of the Transitional Residency Program.

Dr. Mugiishi is also Senior Vice President, Clinical Affairs for the Hawaii Medical Services Association (HMSA). He was co-founder of both the Endoscopy Institute of Hawaii and the Eye Surgery Center of Hawaii, and Medical Director for the venture accelerators Cellular Bioengineering, Inc. and Skai Ventures, LLC. Outside of medicine, he is the Producer of the Broadway Musical “Allegiance”, starring George Takei and Lea Salonga and opening at the Longacre theater in November 2015. He is also Vice Chair for the Iolani School Board of Governors and coached the Iolani Basketball team from 1989-2008, winning 7 State Championships and 11 ILH League championships. In 2010 he was selected to be a coach for the national all-star Nike Jordan Brand Classic at Madison Square Garden.
