Peter Tsai, M.D., F.A.C.S.

Dr. Peter I. Tsai is a cardiothoracic surgeon who recently joined Queen’s Medical Center as a Medical Director of cardiothoracic surgery. Dr. Tsai also has a joint appointment as Professor of Surgery and Chief, Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery, at John A. Burns School of Medicine (JABSOM), the University of Hawaii at Manoa. He is surgical faculty to the General Surgery residents at JABSOM, as well as faculty to the Cardiology residents and fellows at JABSOM. He completed his undergraduate studies in Marine Biology and Biochemistry along with a Master’s degree in Endocrinology at UC Berkeley, before attending medical school at the University of Southern California (USC). After completion of his general surgery training at USC/Los Angeles County and Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles hospitals, he went on to train in thoracic surgery at Baylor College of Medicine/Texas Heart Institute (BCM/THI), where he stayed as tenured faculty rising to the rank of Associate Professor of Surgery.

 

Dr. Tsai has extensive teaching and mentoring experience to undergraduates, medical students, general surgery residents, thoracic surgery residents, and cardiology fellows while at BCM/THI, and continues his mentorship to the general surgery residents and cardiology fellows here at JABSOM. He is passionate about teaching, research, and clinical outcomes. He specializes in the surgical treatment of heart diseases involving the coronaries, valves, and aorta, as well as general thoracic diseases involving the lung, mediastinum, and esophagus. Joining the Queen’s Heart practice, he believes strongly in an integrated cardiology-cardiac surgery service line, to provide open, minimally invasive, and endovascular treatment options for structural heart, coronary, arrhythmia, and aortic diseases. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, American College of Cardiology, and College of Chest Physicians.
